How to Choose the Best Christmas Toys

Every year, a large number of on-line websites and toy retailers develop a list of the best Christmas toys.  You can use this list to get a few good ideas, but know that they aren’t 100% perfect either.  Buying the absolute best Christmas toy for the special child in your life involves taking a number of factors into consideration.  What are they?

The Recommended Age:

A manufacturer always creates an age range that their product is recommended for.  They do this for two reasons.  First, some of their toys are too advanced for small children.  Second, there may be a chocking risk due to small parts.  Always consider the age range of the gifts you buy for Christmas.  A toy that sits unopened until the child is ready for it is no fun.   Popular toys this year for preschoolers are the V.Motion Learning System, the Fisher Price Smart Cycle, and the LeapFrog Zippity; which are typically designed for children aged 3 to 6 years.

Gender:

Yes, most children are interchangeable, meaning they don’t have any concerns playing with girls toys or boys toys.  However, you may have a gift recipient who is a rough and tough boy or a girly girl.  For boys this year, the best Christmas toys are anything that deals with the popular Transformers (including transforming action figures), the Playskool Chuck My Talking Truck, and the Fisher Price Imaginext Playsets.  For girls this year, popular toys include Zhu Zhu Pets, the Barbie 3-Story Dream Townhouse, anything FurReal Friends, and the Little Mommy Real Loving Baby Walk and Giggle Doll.

Movie or Television Characters:

Each year, a good percentage of the best selling Christmas toys are based on a popular movie or television show.  If your intended gift recipient has one of these favorite shows, opt for a themed toy.  For example, tweens who enjoy Hannah Montana may like to play with a fashion doll and Hannahs Malibu Home playset.  Little girls who grew with Dora the Explorer are sure to like the new Dora Links Doll that connects them to a safe, online world of fun!

Fun:

Just because a toy looks fun, it doesnt mean it is.  Yes, a child should be happy with any gift they get, but watch with disappointment as they open a gift that is only nice to look at.  The best Christmas toys translate into hours, days, months, and hopefully years of fun.  It may be best to opt for toys that will grow with your gift recipient.  For example, infants can start out with the Leap Frog Learn and Groove Table without the legs; the legs can be added when they reach the toddler stage.  Many toys grow with the children and this makes for long lasing fun, as well as a wise investment.
